IMAGE FORMAT GUIDE

PNG explained.

PNG stores pixels without lossy compression and supports transparent areas. It is useful for screenshots, interface graphics and logos that need clean edges.

When to choose PNG

Choose PNG when you need transparency or want to avoid another lossy compression step. It is often a good intermediate copy for editing a graphic. Quality controls do not apply to PNG output because this converter uses lossless PNG encoding.

What to expect

A PNG photo can be substantially larger than its JPG, WebP or AVIF source. Changing a compressed photo to PNG does not recover lost detail. This converter accepts still PNG images; animated PNG files are rejected.

Choose the right alternative

Use JPG for an opaque photo intended for an upload form. WebP and AVIF can keep transparency while using lossy color compression. Use ICO when you need actual icon frames rather than simply renaming a PNG extension.

Support in Pixrelio

Import and export PNG. Transparent pixels and decoded dimensions are retained, except when making resized ICO frames. Image metadata and embedded color profiles are not retained.

Select images and settings on a converter page, then open your dedicated result page to preview and download. Original files stay on your device. Read about temporary local storage.
