When to choose BMP
Choose BMP to PNG to store the decoded pixels losslessly in a more practical container. Choose BMP to JPG for photographic content when smaller files and upload compatibility matter. To create a BMP for an older workflow, use JPG or PNG to BMP.
What to expect
Pixrelio reads common uncompressed Windows BMP files and 16-bit or 32-bit bitfield BMP. RLE-compressed BMP and OS/2 variants are not supported. BMP output is always an uncompressed Windows 24-bit bitmap and can be much larger than the source.
Choose the right alternative
Choose a background color before exporting BMP, because 24-bit BMP output is opaque. PNG is usually a better option for transparency or web graphics. Saving a JPG as an uncompressed BMP does not restore detail lost in the JPG.
Support in Pixrelio
Import supported BMP variants and export standard 24-bit BMP. Pixel dimensions are retained. File and output-batch limits still apply, so a large bitmap may require a smaller batch.
