IMAGE FORMAT GUIDE

ICO explained.

ICO stores one or more square icon frames in a single file. It is useful when a website or desktop workflow specifically requests an .ico file.

When to choose ICO

Use PNG to ICO for a transparent logo or JPG to ICO for a photo. Choose the favicon set to include 16, 32, 48 and 256-pixel frames, or choose a single frame from 16 to 256 pixels. Inspect the small sizes to make sure your design stays readable.

What to expect

Pixrelio creates PNG-compressed ICO frames. Very old applications may not support this ICO variant. Pictures are resized to fit each square with transparent padding and no cropping; a wide picture may appear small inside a square icon.

Choose the right alternative

For an existing ICO, choose ICO to PNG to extract its largest frame. Other frame sizes are not included in that PNG. Keep the original ICO if you need its full frame set, and use a simple source graphic for the clearest small icon.

Support in Pixrelio

Import PNG-compressed ICO and common uncompressed DIB icon frames. Export PNG-based ICO with selected square sizes. ICO is the output format that deliberately resizes the source image.

Select images and settings on a converter page, then open your dedicated result page to preview and download. Original files stay on your device. Read about temporary local storage.
