IMAGE FORMAT GUIDE

HEIC / HEIF explained.

HEIC and HEIF photos often come from phones and cameras. If a website or desktop app does not accept one, a JPG or PNG copy can make the picture easier to use.

When to choose HEIC / HEIF

Choose HEIC to JPG for email, familiar upload forms and everyday sharing. Choose HEIC to PNG when you prefer lossless storage of the decoded picture and can accept a potentially larger file. Both .heic and .heif are accepted as inputs.

What to expect

HEIC/HEIF is input-only in Pixrelio. The locally hosted decoder converts the primary photo, or the first photo if no primary is marked. A still output does not retain Live Photo motion, depth information, auxiliary photos, HDR information or metadata.

Choose the right alternative

Keep the original HEIC when you need its camera-specific features. JPG provides an adjustable quality setting and replaces any transparent areas with your chosen background. PNG does not add lossy compression to the decoded picture, but cannot recreate discarded camera information.

Support in Pixrelio

Import HEIC/HEIF; export to another supported format. Large photos need device memory, and local decoding can take longer on a phone. The same 25 MB and 24-megapixel image limits apply.

Select images and settings on a converter page, then open your dedicated result page to preview and download. Original files stay on your device. Read about temporary local storage.
