IMAGE FORMAT GUIDE

JPG / JPEG explained.

JPG is a practical choice for photos, email attachments and forms that expect a widely accepted image file. JPG and JPEG refer to the same format.

When to choose JPG / JPEG

Choose JPG for photographic detail when a smaller file matters more than transparency. Start with quality 85, download a copy, and inspect faces, text and fine edges at full size. A higher setting can retain more detail but usually creates a larger file.

What to expect

JPG uses lossy compression and cannot store transparent pixels. Pixrelio replaces transparency with the background color you choose. Repeated conversion can add compression artifacts, so keep the original and avoid unnecessary re-encoding.

Choose the right alternative

Use PNG for a transparent logo or screenshot with small text. Consider WebP or AVIF for a website when the destination supports them. Converting a JPG to PNG keeps its decoded pixels without restoring previously lost detail.

Support in Pixrelio

Import .jpg or .jpeg. Export JPG with adjustable quality and a background color. Original decoded dimensions are retained; metadata and embedded color profiles are not preserved.

Select images and settings on a converter page, then open your dedicated result page to preview and download. Original files stay on your device. Read about temporary local storage.
